The Grapevine Parish Magazine entry for November 2017

Our Autumn Programme started with an excellent Fungal Foray.  In the teens of species found within two hundred metres of the entrance along Chambers Way. What wonderful common names they have. Jelly Ear, Penny Bun, Common Stinkhorn, Common Puffball and Curry Scented Milk Cap were amongst those found.

Wednesday 22nd November – The Hazel Dormouse – A Yorkshire Perspective

Dr Geoff Oxford, Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Biology at the University of York, and a leading member of the Yorkshire Mammal Group, will be giving us a fascinating illustrated presentation into the life of this attractive tiny mammal.  Meet at Dunnington Reading Room at 8.00pm. Admission is free to members, non-members £1.50, and refreshments 50p.

Sunday 7th January – New Year Lunch   

Brighten up the dark days of winter by joining us for our now traditional New Year Lunch.  Meet at 11.00am outside the Children’s Play Area on Intake Lane for an optional woodland walk beforehand, or at 1.15pm for a drink before the lunch at 1.30pm at the Dunnington Sports Centre.  To book your place at the lunch, contact Michael on York 489013 or on mdunn48h@gmail.com by 20th December. The menu options will be available on our website nearer this date.

Our next Woodland Working parties will be held on Saturdays the 25th November, 9th December and 6th January.   Meet at the wood end of Intake Lane at 10 a.m., or just find us in the wood. Details will be posted on the notice board as you enter the wood. All equipment will be provided and we usually work through to 1 p.m. You will be made very welcome even if you only stay for an hour or two.
